Did some concept art work a few years back for some short movies:
marauder film

This is my portfolio:

My name is Diogo Sampaio (born 1990) I’m a graphic designer and digital artist from Porto, Portugal, and currently living in Lisbon.

My work can be described as surreal scenes created by combining different photographs usually shown in my Instagram. I work on both personal and commissioned projects with clients all around the world. In contrast to traditional photography, I don’t capture moments, I capture ideas with the help of my camera and imagination. The goal is to make it look as realistic as possible even if the scene itself contains impossible elements. In the end, it all comes down to problem solving, finding a way to capture the impossible.

In the world press, I have been featured on Photoshop Official Instagram, Adobe Creative Cloud, Enter Imagination, Cultura Colectiva and many other relevant palces. Also, I am the admin of Learn Photoshop on instagram with more than 300k followers! I got my first magazine article on Inspades Magazine (issue 10) from Canada and another article at Launchdsigns I had the pleasure to work for “The Rolling Stones”, “Guns n Roses”, “Imagine Dragons”, “Machine Gun Kelly”, and so many other music artists around the world!

I’m excited to see the Matte Paint forum and to meet everyone here. Its a great community of artists to connect and learn from one another. And my last words to this post are of a great painter; “Its a good day to paint.”

Hey, all!

I’m Tom and I’m new to the world of Matte Painting. Im currently a digital creative director (UX and UI) and have a background in 3d/motion graphics. I, unfortunately, never got a chance to break into the film/animation world, but I’m trying to see what resources are available for old dogs like me to change careers!

I took a course a couple years ago that focused on digital matte painting using digital nature software (Eon Vue), but that was the extent of my matte painting experience. I have no other professional experience with anything film/animation so I’m starting at the bottom.

I look forward to seeing what I can learn from the collective matte painters and artists here that are coming from across the globe and many different backgrounds and cultures!

Hi guys!

I’m Brenten and I’m one of the Co-Founders of MattePaint, I mostly process images for the site and take photos. Love seeing your work! :grinning:

Hello everyone,

I’m Gregory, currently a 3rd year student. I’m reasonably new to DMP, first exploring it properly at the start of 2019, but I have a background in 3D, including some freelance work, and a bit of oil painting too. I’m trying to learn as much as possible before looking for jobs/internships next year.

Most of my 2D DMP work has actually come from the MattePaint competitions, because I like having a brief and a deadline to stop me taking on rediculously complicated projects, but additionally I’ve worked with film students to do a bit of generalist VFX on ‘real’ shots.

Here’s my ArtStation link:

Hi everyone, I’m Dumindu ,

Good luck to everyone.

Hey Guys, so great to see all of you here!

I’m Stefan, environment artist at Digital Domain, i also help out over at the matte paint academy page, mainly nuke questions tough.
I have a wide background, spanning over roles as a 3D generalist, compositor and now matte painter.
Feel free to hit me up if you have questions.

My name is Albert (Alberto Ramírez) I´m a veteran 3d artist from Spain. I have worked for many years as an architectural visualization artist mainly (from 2000). In 2013 I started working as a junior lighting artist for some feature films in my country. This work was followed by other international films, TV series, and some work as an environment artist, illuminator and composer, practically a generalist work.
Since childhood I have loved CGI effects in movies like Jurassic Park or Terminator, and I decided to learn for one day to participate in them as a CGI artist. It was not until a few years ago that I was really interested in creating environments and was able to learn little by little through internet tutorials, a basic course in the Vancouver Film School and in Cgpreceptor with Jaime Jasso and Daniel Schmid.

But I have to say, that is really finding work as a mattepainter, and I keep doing interior design as a 3d artist, while I find.

Welcome! Thanks so much for sharing your story, it’s great to have you here

Hi everyone!
I’m Nicolas and I am an aspiring Matte Painter and Concept Artist from Belgium.
I recently started my matte painting journey and i’m hungry to improve!
My background has nothing to do with the vfx industry as I worked as dental technician…but I am focused on my new goal and I thought mattepaint was a good resource to improve and to learn.

You can check my protfolio and my instagram here:

By the way, any feedback is welcome.

Welcomeeeee

There are a few people in your position that I know… Jeevan, an past colleague of mine, used to be an Engineer and turned to Concept-Art and Matte Painting. It’s definitely possible!

Your work looks really nice, but more concept-art than matte painting. You have a good grasp of lighting and composition and colour, now you just have to practice the photo-real portion!

Hi everyone, I’m Jc from Chile. I’ve been working on the film / video industry for 15+ years, first in the camera dept mainly as documentary DP, then slowly migrate to Post Production, but I keep coming and going from post to sets or the field, specially to the great outdoors. Many of the Chile’s and Andes photos of the site are mine, I love mountaineering and rock climbing on my spare time so I keep getting shots of the central Andes Range, Patagonia, etc.

Nowadays I work mainly as VFX Producer / Set Supervisor and colorist here in Chile. I would really love to do some more (and better) DMP, so I keep checking the feedback and tips. Wish I had this place when I was starting.
